A borrowed track from King Krule’s track, “Out Getting Ribs”, sped up and mixed with clever raps was my first earful of Ivy Sole. That track goes by the name of “All Mine” from Sole’s 2016 debut mixtape Eden.

Ivy is a master of using something borrowed, bring blues, and transforming it into something new. Ivy wears all these well in her production. A soulful touch to rap and detailed storytelling that leaves listeners connected. I am a proper fan of artist unleashing tales of their past struggle to their fight for success. Ivy does tells her story well, through poetic lyricism, which totally makes her discography quite solid.

Apart from her debut mixtape, Eden, her debut full length album, Overgrown, was released in 2018. This was another project that opened my heart and soul to Sole. This album came out during a great transition in my life. Moving from my long time home in the bay area to central California, to a new apartment, and starting a new job. There were many emotions that drove me to tears and anger at times. Yet, once again, music helped me cope with the whirlpool of emotions. Overgrown is an album of personal growth. A audio gala of pep talks to a past self with a present mindset.
